Dedicated to the memory of Harry McCree OBE

This site is a tribute to Harry McCree OBE . He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Harry McCree OBE on the 9th June 2021.

Harry died peacefully in Royal Hampshire County Hospital he was 94 years of age he had a good life, a nurse by profession for which he received an OBE for his contribution to nursing.

He was funny, sociable, a socialist, loved and valued people and of course had a great love of football. His ability to engage with everyone meant that his daily visits to Cafe Nero in Winchester resulted in the whole team spotting him a mile off and his coffee was at the table before he sat down. So my thanks to the staff in Café Nero; you are fab.

A much loved Husband, Dad and grandad you will be missed by us all. RIP xx

Thoughts

I worked with Harry some 40 or so years ago and from time to time since then. A wonderful man - a leader standing up and advocating for the needs of the disadvantaged - inspirational and also fun. His image is crystal clear in my memory - the impact of his work living on in the lives of those whom it touched. A man I am glad and privileged to have known.

I first met Harry McCree nearly 40 years ago. Soon after that I met his late wife who was then on the Committee of a home for those with learning difficulties in Compton. Over the years I met them both in Winchester. After the death of his wife we met, as many others did, in Winchester High Street and particularly in Nero for a coffee where we would often have a chat. Life became a struggle latterly which he bore with fortitude and good humour. I shall miss an old friend and hope the knowledge of how much he was liked and valued will be of comfort to his family. Kind regards, John Spokes.
